WIFS of Northeast Florida celebrates diversity and invites its members and guests to the presentation
Empowerment to Lead a Safer Lifestyle”

Jacksonville, FL – June 20, 2014…..Twelve WIFS members and guests participated in its June 19th networking event which was offered to celebrate diversity through team work and culinary influence.  Under the guidance of Chefs Ted and Lionel at the Publix Cooking School on San Jose Blvd., the group prepared:

  • Vietnamese Summer Rolls with Nuoc & Cham Dipping Sauce
  • Asian Eggplant in Black Bean Sauce
  • Malaysian Coconut Chicken
  • Perfect Rice
  • Mango & Cardamom Ice Cream

“The evening was fun, delicious.  We learned a great deal about different cultures’ seasonings as well as the slicing and dicing and the proper way to handle and cook no matter what type of food you are preparing,” echoed guests Barbara Brown, CPA and Margie Corristan, Math Instructor.  Jennifer Anderson, Director of Human Resources of Certigy, Inc, also a guest said, “I really appreciated the warm WIFS reception and enjoyed spending time with the group.”   Guest, Monica Gallagher, Executive VP at Voya Financial said,  “I gained a lot of insight into cooking diverse foods.” Equally important, the time together validated her mantra, “When you are creating something new or different — whether it is in the kitchen or the office — it’s always great to work with a team so that your intended outcome comes together perfectly,” said Gallagher. In addition to learning about Asian spices and cooking, all learned about the benefits of becoming a member of this non-profit group.  Further, prior attendees of WIFS’ national conference (this year it will be held in Orlando on October 22-25, 2014 at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa  right across the street from the Downtown Disney® Area), spoke about the educational, team building, networking and referral opportunities that abound during the conference.  Christina Loddo Epstein, WIFS of Northeast Florida President Elect, shared her wonderful experience at last year’s conference and reminded all that if they registered on or before July 15, they would receive a discount off the registration fee as well as a Disney gift card upon arrival.  “That, combined with the fact that the conference will be practically in our backyard, makes it an event hard to pass up!” said Epstein. At the end of the evening, Tara Showalter, President of WIFS of Northeast Florida, thanked everyone for coming and spoke briefly about WIFS’ next two events.   On July 8, 2014, WIFS will host a breakfast during which Teresa Meares, a Police Officer turned entrepreneur will share her personal experiences and knowledge with practical tips for staying alert and safe as a woman in today’s world. The breakfast will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. at the Hampton Inn-San Marco at 1331 Prudential Drive Jacksonville, FL 32207.  Individuals interested in attending can do so by reserving a spot on Eventbrite: http://wifs070814.eventbrite.com.   Showalter also shared that there will be another social at the end of July at Pussers in Ponte Vedra Beach.  More details regarding that networking event can be found on the WIFS of Northeast Florida website: http://www.wifsnefl.org.
