June 2019 Networking Event Highlights

Tuesday, June 11th WIFS members and guests were invited to tour the operations of the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Our tour began with a presentation to learn the history of the Federal Reserve and how they interact with local banks, and monitor the demand for currency in the 11th district.  We were then escorted by two armed guards to view the bank’s cash processing operations, where millions of dollars are counted, sorted and shredded!  Pictures were prohibited during the tour but we did manage to capture a few shots!

The Atlanta Fed, along with the other 11 regional district banks, has three primary functions: assisting with monetary policy, operation of nationwide payment system, and administering bank supervision and regulation. Its job is to decide the interest rates, and the president meets with other bank presidents and board members. The bank’s board of directors makes recommendations on the levels of discount rates.  Click here to learn more about the Federal Reserve: https://www.frbatlanta.org/about/fed-explained.aspx

October 2018 Luncheon Highlights

WIFS October Lunch Meeting

WIFS Northeast Florida had a record turn-out at Seasons 52 on October 9 to hear Cheryl Canzanella Goodell, LUTCF Brokerage Director with MassMutual and founding president of WIFS NEFL, share her journey of living with and loving an addict, her husband, whom she lost to an accidental overdose.

Cheryl brought her story to attendees and educated all on the financial toll this epidemic is bringing to our clients, the economic burden of it, and the impact to our business. We also learned how the opioid crisis is becoming part of the financial planning discussion and why Cheryl thinks things are about to get worse before they gets better and how we can prepare for things to come.

WIFS was also honored to have WIFS National President Elect, Michelle Harm, MBA, RICP® (Prudential) join us for our lunch meeting in October. Thank you to all who joined us for this impactful and insightful presentation. Thank you, especially, to Cheryl Canzanella Goodell.
