WIFS National Conference In Review~Tara Showalter

Dear WIFS Members & Friends,

I am charged up — I just returned from our annual conference which I think you all are aware was held in Orlando — and, I wanted to share what a great time we had!

First, I was delighted there were 11 of us from the Chapter who were able to make it. Northeast FL Chapter Attendees included:

Second, one of the best parts of the WIFS National Conference is the group of women who come from all over the U.S. who are eager to discuss the challenges, successes, resources and the support they’ve found in the course of their careers. We had a robust agenda and, in fact, several of our Northeast FL Chapter members hosted discussions or participated on panels during the course of our very exciting 2 ½ days. Experienced, award-winning writer, editor, author, speech writer

 Writer, editor and author. Co-author of “The Making of the Super Bowl” and “Unreasonable Leadership.” Also collaborated with former U.S. Labor Secretary W.J. Usery on his memoirs in 2006-07.  Has been teaching at the University of North Florida since 1999.

Chuck is president of SearchWrite Inc., which provides editorial and communications services for clients nationwide. Day’s career as an award-winning author, journalist, editor and speaker now spans more than 45 years.  Since January 1999, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Florida.

Day’s books include: The Making of the Super Bowl with late NFL Executive Director Don Weiss; Unreasonable Leadership, a collaboration with Acosta, Inc. Executive Chairman and former CEO Gary Chartrand; a history of Ring Power Corp., which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012; and Jacksonville Football History, which recounts the city’s 14-year quest for the NFL.  Book No. 6 is now under construction.  In 2006 and ’07, Day helped former U.S. Labor Secretary W.J. Usery with his memoirs.

An Ohio native, Chuck and his wife Judy moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in late 1997.  He launched  SearchWrite in May 1999.

Before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach, Day enjoyed a distinguished career as a journalist and magazine editor.  He spent more than 18 years with IndustryWeek, including six as its Editor-in-Chief.  During his tenure, Day explored executive strategies with such CEOs as GE’s Jack Welch and Goodyear’s Stan Gault, and examined the ideas of leading management consultants such as Peter Drucker and Tom Peters.

Chuck began his career as a Cleveland Press sportswriter in 1969. He was in Cleveland Stadium when ABC’s Monday Night Football debuted in September 1970, and spent 22 seasons helping network TV and radio crews produce pro football games in Cleveland.

A Rotarian since late 1973, Chuck has served as president of two Clubs, including Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary in 2004-05.  He is also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

Day served as a member of the Lakewood, Ohio, Board of Education for 16 years.  In 1988 the Ohio School Boards Association named him one of the state’s top five school board members.   He and Judy have two grown children, and one grandson.

WIFS Virtual 5K-Imagine the Cure & Financial Fitness 5K TWO FOR ONE!

WIFS Northeast Florida invites you to participate in TWO races=ONE 5K on ONE day

WIFS Virtual 5K & Financial Fitness 5K

September 13th, 8am Fletcher Park San Marco

WIFS NEFL will be running one race and participating in two, so join us! Sign up for both races and meet at 7:30 at Fletcher Park in San Marco to run one! 

Shirts-WIFS NEFL shirts will be available and we encourage all participants to support their chapter by purchasing a shirt!  (The shirt will be great for conference too!!)  The color is not this exact green (but similar), they are dry weave and come in women’s sizes of S, M, L & XL.  The front will have the small WIFS logo and the back with have the large WIFS logo with the outline of FL.  If you are interested please reply and we will send you an invoice through paypal but you have to place your order by Friday, otherwise it will be first come first served on the additional sizes ordered. The cost is approximately $20 (but may be less!)  Thanks to August Signs & Kim Walsky for hooking us up!  augustsigns@clearwire.net 904-910-4567 They create custom banners, signs, stickers, magnetics, wrap vehicles, shirts, etc. 

Register for both races or register for one either way join WIFS NEFL to support the causes:

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month so join WIFS and participate in this fun virtual run with a portion of your registration will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, a special organization focusing on research that leads to a cure for this disease.  This is a virtual race, so run or walk wherever you are, on your own or with other WIFS members and friends. You can even complete the race on a treadmill. Each participant should record and email your time to office@wifsnational.org  Share your training with the tag #imaginethecure.  Map your own course, you can run anywhere and everywhere!  Everyone is welcome to join!  $39.95; this cost includes a medal to share your accomplishment and a portion will go to our charity, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Each participant will receive a special Imagine the Cure medal to honor your completion of this exciting run. Medals will be presented at our annual conference October 22-25, Imagine the Future. If you do not attend the National conference, you will receive your medal via mail in early November.  Contest for most spirited chapter, most participation and much more!
